Canada's Food Guide

Canada's Food Guide has been around in one form or another for over 80 years. The decades have seen many changes to the guide's recommendations, but none more so than the latest edition in 2019, which almost entirely removed dairy and meat from the plate. Find out about the history of the guide, why its recommendations have changed, and what it can do for your health with our latest series.

Cultivated Meat, What Is It?

Cultivated Meat (A.K.A. cultured meat, clean meat, or lab-grown meat) represents a new frontier in food innovation. While this agricultural innovation represents a huge potential to feed millions while reducing food and water inputs, safeguarding animal and human health, and reducing animal suffering, it faces market, policy, and public opinion barriers (as most new innovations do).  Learn what cultivated meat is, what it isn't, and how this new innovation can transform animal agriculture for the better.

The Problem Of Food Waste

Food waste and loss is so much bigger than the tomato you forgot about in the back of your fridge or the leftover french fries that went in the garbage. Food waste and loss (like climate change) is a systematic issue that we as individuals cannot possibly reverse on our own. Collective action and concerted effort are required to ensure more of the food we grow ends up on our plates and not in our compost bins.

How Droughts Are Affecting Canada

Agriculture (like most systems) is reliant on water to function. Droughts put crops and livestock at risk, drain underground aquifers and make life for Canadians more expensive. Drought frequency and severity have already increased as climate change continues to impact our landscapes and it's only going to get worse. How can we prepare, adapt to, and plan for a world with more frequent droughts? Our video series will help you get a handle on the situation.
